Some people might find it weird to do stuffs or go to places alone by themselves, but not me. I always love to have some time just for myself that I can gather all my thoughts.
I know Manzi through one of my great friends. Her boyfriend and her came here once and uploaded a picture of them sitting on the balcony that has the view to a beautiful garden. I, for God knows what reason, immediately fall in love with that place.
Step out of the taxi and look at Manzi’s white building, I have a strange feeling of a person who comes to a very very cool place. There are a few people stand outside at the door moving boxes to a big red truck. Manzi is cleaning its place for a new exhibition.
If you are looking for some coffee places that beautifully decorate then Manzi is not made for you. Manzi does not have that many tables compared to its own open spaced. The furniture are very simple so people can focus on all the amazing artworks on the wall. With the kind of music that is hard to please everyone, especially teenagers, Manzi is definitely a collective space. Manzi chooses its own customers, not customers choose Manzi.
The first drink that I order is Bơsola (Avocado and chocolate). This is my favorite drink from Manzi. With the humidnity and hotness of Hanoi’s weather, a cup of Bơsola is all you need. It literally smooths out your throat as you are slowly sucking it up from your straw. Who knows that chocolate and avocado can work very well together and creates a perfect summer smoothie. Richness and sweetness, Bơsola has it all.
The most popular drink at Manzi that a lot of people order is Dứa Bạc Hà (Pineapple with mint). This is the opposite of Bơsola, not so thick. Even though it does not have a complex layer as Bơsola, it is actually super light and refreshing. The heat is hunting me when I first get in Manzi but after 15 mins and a couple sips of Dứa Bạc Hà, my body finally cools down. Just like the atmosphere of Manzi, this drink is not made for everyone because of the sourness of lime and a little bit bitterness of mint. What makes Dứa Bạc Hà becoming the most popular drink here must be the after taste, minty and summerlike. Just like Hanoi’s weather after a rainfall, chilly and shivery.
Manzi today afternoon is not that packed. Most people come in are foreigners from France and America. The special thing is the foreigners seem that they know the owner before or even long time ago, this shows that people love to come back to Manzi, not only because of the drinks, but also the mood here.
Some of you will find this place “boring” but whenever you need a place to escape from this crowded city, Manzi is always there for you.
For me, I will always call Manzi – my hideaway.
